Dropbox BRAND illustrations
While at Dropbox I worked with the brand illustration team to evolve and define their illustrative voice. I created a variety of illustrations for a range of different surfaces including in product, presentations, videos and marketing campaigns. The defined style keeps the different visuals cohesive and on brand while being flexible enough to adapt to many different situations.
illustrating for digital products
Creating illustrations for use in product requires building visuals from a core set of principles centered around how they represent the brandβs personality and voice. From there a set of rules can be crafted to shape how the visuals are rendered. Both of these ideas are established to ensure consistency as users encounter illustration in different sections, at different times and even across different products or marketing materials. Building that consistency harbors a sense of trust for users with the brand that they are interacting with establishing a personal bond to the products they are using.
Dropbox for business
One of my primary roles at Dropbox was to adapt the visual style for a more business focused audience. At the time, the company was transitioning from a strong consumer presence into the business market and wanted to maintain some of the brand personality that had been established while also seeming secure enough that businesses could trust them. To do this we used a limited set of neutral colors, dialed down the playfulness of the characters and used real world scenarios (with some fun perspectives) rather than imagined ones.
